LANDSCAPE INTERRUPTED Veronika Horlik | Contemp[orary Ceramics | Forest, Fire & Immersive Sculpture.
The works presented in Landscape Interrupted explore the Canadian forest landscape within the current context of increasingly devastating wildfires that are reshaping both our territory and our collective imagination. Through a practice rooted in contemporary ceramic sculpture, I examine the environmental transformations linked to fire and forest management.
In my hands, clay transforms into monumental charred wood, echoing the debris scattered across the ground after flames have swept through a landscape. This dense, dark materiality contrasts sharply with a constellation of luminous white elements — porcelain snowflakes, stars, and leaves — creating a powerful visual tension and drawing the eye toward a precise focal point. The immersive installation thus stages a dialogue between destruction and regeneration, weight and lightness.
